BOSIM

Photonic Device Modeling and Simulation Environment

Silicon photonic circuits are revolutionizing computing systems and improving their energy efficiency, bandwidth, and latency. Optical modulators, such as microresonators and Mach-Zehnder Interferometers (MZIs), are the basic silicon photonic devices. BOSIM is developed to holistically exploring silicon photonic devices and cuicuits.

BOSIM is a SPICE-compatible electro-optical silicon photonic device design, modeling, and simulation enviroment. It can systematically study optical modulators based on PN, PIN, and metal-insulator-silicon (MIS) capacitor device technologies. BOSIM models both transient and steady state properties, such as switching speed, power, transmission spectrum, area and carrier distribution. BOSIM is validated by the fabricated devices from Intel, Bell labs, IBM, Cornell, PETRA, ETRI, CAS, and HKUST.
