Hybrid Nonlinear Variation Modeling of Compliant Metal Plate Assemblies Considering Welding Shrinkage and Angular Distortion

Abstract

Ship assembly involves welding large compliant metal plates, which introduces geometric nonlinearity and welding deformation. This paper presents a hybrid nonlinear variation model (HNVM) incorporating welding shrinkage and angular distortion, calibrated using a composite Gaussian process (CGP) to enhance prediction accuracy. The proposed model significantly improves the prediction of assembly deviations.
